Overview

Initially The Foreign Language Teaching Unit (FLTU) was established in the late 1960's to cover the foreign language teaching requirements (English, French, German, Italian) of the newly founded School of Physics and Mathematics (presently the School of Applied Sciences) which until the early 1980's the administration remained under the school following which the administration was transferred to the University of Patras (Senate, and Rector's Counci)l. Since then the Foreign Language Teaching Unit has extended its teaching services to cover all Departmental requirements.

Administration

The FLTU is an independent teaching unit which is governed by a bylaw statement approved and passed by the University Senate (171/31-08-1992), in accordance with the Act 17, Paragraph 5 of the University of Patras Bylaws (Ministry of Education Decision B1/482/14-06-1989). The FLTU is under the supervision of a Board of Members which is represented by the Dean of each School, a Co-ordinator, a Faculty Member of the FLTU, which is proposed by the FLTU Assembly and is then elected by the University Senate to serve a three-year term.
