The Postgraduate Program Informatics for Life Sciences (ILS) was founded in 2003 and is co-organized by the Departments of Medicine, Biology, Pharmacy, Physics and Computer Engineering and Informatics of the University of Patras.

The program aims to provide high quality education in Life Sciences Informatics with prospects both in academia and in the field of applications. The graduates will be able to perform independent academic research in the field of Life Sciences Informatics and solve life sciences problems by developing novel informatics tools (e.g. databases, models, acquisition, data analysis and visualization software). The program hopes to contribute to the development of this new hybrid scientific field and meet educational, research, health, technological and societal needs, focusing on national development.

The specialization directions offered are:

  • Bioinformatics

  • Neuroinformatics and

  • Medical Informatics

The Joint Postgraduate Programme "Informatics for Life Sciences" (ILS) leads to the award of a Master's Degree (MSc). The duration of the program is two years (four semesters) and includes background courses, specialization courses and a thesis.

Applicants must hold a university degree in Life Sciences (e.g. Medicine, Biology, Pharmacy, Nursing, Chemistry), in Informatics or a related discipline, awarded by a Higher Education Institution (University or Technological Institution) in Greece or an equivalent accredited Institution abroad (degree must be recognized by the Hellenic NARIC).
