The Department of Chemistry founded in 1966, is one of the oldest Departments of the University of Patras. It is located in the north-west side of the University Campus very close to the University Hospital. The educational and research activities of the Department are concentrated in three-storey buildings, known as "North" "South" and "extension". It has nine student and research laboratories, a computational center and a library.

The Chemistry Department provides students with a full education in the whole range of subjects and skills associated with chemistry, including biochemistry, chemical technology and food science. The four-year degree qualifies our graduates for careers in the chemical industry, commercial research or analytical laboratories, or secondary education. Post-graduate studies enable our students to pursue academic careers and further their industrial career.

At the undergraduate level the Department collaborates with a large member of other European Universities through the ECTS-ERASMUS student exchange programme. Moreover, the majority of faculty members participate in joint research projects with scientists from other academic institutions and chemical companies in Greece and around the world.

The Undergraduate Studies Programme of the Chemistry Department was recently certified (08/04/2019) by the Hellenic Quality and Accreditation Agency. The Programme complies with the principles of the “Standards for Quality Accreditation of Undergraduate Programmes” published by HQA and the Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area (ESG 2015), corresponding to level 6 of the National and European Qualifications Framework.
