Abstract:
Technology for renewable energy sources like wind and solar it is ready for mass deployment. It has proved the working capacity in supplying affordable green electricity to the grid. However, the two bottlenecks for 100% renewable energy deployment is weather dependability of renewable energy and storage of the excess energy produced. In KU Leuven and imec, we are addressing both of this issue.
My PhD is about developing a precision model for the energy yield of solar power plants in various weather condition. With a precise understanding of how the energy output varies with the different weather condition, we can predict the output of different cell technologies and solar power plants installed anywhere in the world. In this way, both you and the energy provider can plan well ahead. It will not only save initial investment cost but also manage your systems smartly to rely upon renewable energy in the future.
