Venetsana Kyriazopoulou

I was born in Patras in 1953, and I studied at the University of Parma Medical School in Italy and the Department of Medicine of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki where I graduated. I received my Ph.D. from the Department of Medicine at the University of Patras.

I am a Professor of Internal Medicine-Endocrinology of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Patras since 2008. I am a member of the General Assembly of the Department of Medicine of the University of Patras since 1981, a member of the Diabetes Center of Internal Medicine since 1992 and a foundation member of the Endocrinology Clinic since 1984, where I have held the position of consultant for patients with Endocrine Disorders of the Department of Internal Medicine since 2010.

During the period 2010-2014, I was Dean of the School of Health Sciences at the University of Patras and President or member of various committees in the Department of Medicine in Athens and Patras. Member of the Committee of the National Academic Recognition Information Center (DOATAP) for the recognition of Degrees in Medicine, Pharmacy and Nursing of Universities of other countries. Deputy Chairman of the Central Council of Health (KESY).

My research interests focus mainly in the areas of: hypothalamic - pituitary – adrenal axis, thyroid, Diabetes - Metabolic Diseases and Obesity.

I have an active involvement in the educational program of the students of the Department of Medicine in all years of study at the undergraduate level. At the postgraduate level, I am involved in the training of fellow and trainee Physicians Endocrinologists of the University of Patras from 1986 until present.

I am a Member of the Scientific Societies: European Thyroid Association, European Association for the study of diabetes, European Federation of endocrine societies, Greek Endocrine Society, Greek Diabetes Association, Greek Obesity Society, Hellenic Society for Geriatric Medicine of Western Greece.

My scientific expertise involves 62 publications in international peer-reviewed journals (pubmed and index medicus), more than 300 lectures and roundtables co-ordinated with lectures and presentations in scientific conferences in Greece and abroad, more than 200 presentations in National and International Conferences.

I organize scientific conferences every two years on Diabetes Mellitus, with key speakers from Greece and abroad, experts in metabolic diseases. Also, I am a reviewer for international journals.

I have been awarded 10 times from the National Congress of the Hellenic Endocrine Society, as well as, the first prize of applied research at the 32nd Hellenic Medical Congress in 2006 and four awards in oral presentations in International Congresses.
