Transportation

There are available flights to the International Airport of Athens “Eleftherios Venizelos” (http://www.aia.gr/), which is located in Spata, East of Athens. Patras is easily accesible from the International Airport by train, bus or car. Moreover, two small airports are located close to Patras, which are used for charter flights; one airport is in the town of Araxos, 40 km west of Patras and one is in Adravida, 70 km west of Patras.

From Athens to Patras

By coach

Patras is connected with Athens by regular bus services (http://www.ktelachaias.gr/), which take place every 30 min (it takes about 2,5 hours to reach the capital). In Athens, the main bus station is called “KTEL Peloponissou”, at 100 Kifissou Str., telephone: +30 210 5124910. In Patras, the Bus station is located at the centre of Patras, at 2 Zaimi Str. and Othonos Amalias Str., telephone: +30 2610 623886-8. There are also daily Bus services to all major cities of Greece, the Ionian Islands and the well-known archaeological sites (Olympia, Delphi, Kalavryta).

By car

The road route to follow from Athens, is via the National Road 8A which is gradually being upgraded to a motorway, the Olympia Odos (A8). The National Road 8 begins east of Elefsina, past Megara and Kineta where the motorway passes through several tunnels. The expanded section ends near Corinth, from which it continues on a limited-access single road through to the city of Patras. There are visible road signs leading to the University Hospital of Rion and the University Campus. Soon after the toll posts, just before the interchange with the A5 motorway to Antirrion, take the slip off road towards Rion on the right and at two hundred metres you follow the left side of the road that passes underneath the bridge. The University Hospital will be seen on the left and this is where the University Campus begins.

From Patras to the University Campus

By suburban railway

The Central Railway Station (OSE) is located in the city center. From the Central Railway Station there is the Suburban Railway (Proastiakos) that runs every one hour and connects the town of Kastelokampos (10 min. walking from the Stavropoulos Students Residence), Rio and the University of Patras. The ticket cost is 1.40 Euros/ trip and 1 euro/ trip for students. There is also a monthly student card, which costs 10 Euros for students. Passengers with bicycles may carry them onto the Proastiakos.

The Proastiakos runs every 1 hour between 06.30 – 22.30 and the daily route starts from St. Andreas – Patras – Kastelokampos – Hospital – University and every 1 hour between 07.00 – 23.00 the return route University – Hospital – Rio – Kastelokampos – Patras – St. Andreas.

From Kastelokampos Railway Station, the OSE bus takes the passengers to Hospital, the University and vise versa.

By car

The University is about 8 km from the city of Patras. Starting from the centre of Patras, drive till the end of Korinthou Street,. Then, take the right lane onto Panepistimiou Street till the end and after the indoor Athletic stadium “Dimitrios Tofalos” you take a right turn at the traffic lights, following the signs “University of Patras”.

By bus

The Number 6 bus for Rion, which leaves from the bus terminal that is located downtown, runs every ten to fifteen minutes and connects the University with the city. Since some buses go directly to the town of Rion, by passing the campus, it is advisable to ask before boarding if the specific bus goes to the Panepistimio (University).

By taxi

There are about one thousand taxis available in the city of Patras. Many taxis work on a 24-hour basis. You can hire a taxi at a taxi stand. Taxis can also be requested by telephone using one of the following numbers 1300, 2610 346700, 2610 450000
