Abstract: Basic concepts. Trace element imbalances in hemodialysis patients. The natural exposure to lithium and the suicide rate in the general population. Manganese and acquired hepatocerebral degeneration. Single particle & single-cell ICP-MS.
Biography: Agostinho Almeida is a Professor of Analytical/Bioanalytical Chemistry and Instrumental Methods of Analysis the University of Porto, Portugal, and a researcher at LAQV/REQUIMTE, a Portuguese research centre for Sustainable Chemistry, where he leads a trace element analysis unit. He obtained a PhD in Analytical Chemistry (2000) from the University of Porto. His main research interests are trace elements in health and disease, with a focus on the development and validation of analytical procedures using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry and environmental, pharmaceutical, clinical/toxicological and forensic applications. He has authored over 160 papers and presented more 100 lectures and oral communications.
